Vanpooling is much like carpooling except that it usually involves a larger group of riders and is most efficient for longer commutes. In many cases the group may choose to rent a van to accommodate everyone comfortable and avoid wear and tear on anyone’s personal vehicle.

Using a bicycle to make your commute is not only cost effective, but very healthy. There are limitations due to dependence on fair weather conditions, but cycling can be an excellent option for shorter commutes.

Carpooling is the most recognized method for reducing the number of single occupant vehicles on the road. This method requires two or more people to ride together to the same destination in a single vehicle.

Walking is another healthy option that costs nothing. Walking is very popular with college students who live on, or very close to campus. Walking is also very good way to begin or end your commute using a vehicle like a bus or train.

The use of mass transit for commuting generally refers to trains, buses, and shuttle vans. Trains can be a great way to make long commutes, but in Florida cities, the bus is the most common transit option. In more rural areas you may find that shuttle vans operate limited routes to help commuters connect to a larger transit network.

Working remotely or taking college courses via video conference have become extremely popular in recent years. Many companies and educational institutions offer (even encourage) this option. Video conferencing saves a lot of time, money, and stress, not to mention fuel and carbon emissions.
